A Simple Starting Guide for Participants and Families
The National Disability Insurance Scheme, known as the NDIS, provides support for eligible people with disability to help them build independence, participate in the community and work towards their goals.
Starting your NDIS journey can feel confusing at first. You may hear new words, funding categories and service names that are unfamiliar. This guide gives you a simple introduction so you can feel more confident when speaking with providers, support coordinators and the NDIA.
What the NDIS Can Support
The NDIS may fund reasonable and necessary supports that relate to a person’s disability and help them achieve their goals. Supports may include assistance with daily living, therapy, community participation, assistive technology, capacity building and other approved supports.
Your NDIS Plan
Your NDIS plan outlines your goals and the types of supports funded to help you work towards those goals. It may include Core Supports, Capacity Building Supports and Capital Supports.
